Cu Dhub

December 14, 2010

The best thing you can say about this whisky is that it tastes of almost nothing. Which makes it different from Loch Dhu and – in a way – slightly more enjoyable. – Rating: 18/100

Glen Spey 1996/2008 “Der Whisky”

The extremely pale colour hints to an inactive cask. In fact it was a dead one. Don’t bother. – Rating: 55/100

Glen Scotia 1974/2005 Signatory

September 9, 2010

The marvelous nose makes lots of promises but there is a subliminal soapiness on the palate that destroys all hopes of getting to enjoy a fine aged Campbeltown malt. – Rating: 72/100

Loch Dhu 10 yo

While the nose is not too unpleasant – albeit a bit wierd – the taste pulls it down enormously. It tastes more like herbal bitter as Fernet Branca than like a whisky. To put it short: Crap. – Score: 15/100

Rothaus Black Forest Single Malt 2006/2009

November 10, 2009

The worst dram I ever had so far, mainly for the moldy mushroom flavour. Very immature and unbalanced. The brewery makes excellent beer. They should stick with that in order not to ruin their reputation. The price of €50 per bottle is ridiculuos. Avoid. – Score: 20/100

Swissky Single Malt – Exclusiv-Abfüllung 5 yo

July 24, 2009

This must have been matured in a quince eau de vie barrel. The taste of quince kills all whisky-ness. In fact I like the taste, but this really is not whisky. – Score: 35/100
