Glenrothes 1997/2015 Wemyss “Chocolate Orange Segment”

May 26, 2016

I hate to repeat myself, but time and time again there are whiskies with a great nose that dissapoint on the palate. – Rating: 80/100

Bowmore 1997/2015 Wemyss “Shellfish Platter”

May 16, 2016
Thumbnail image for Bowmore 1997/2015 Wemyss “Shellfish Platter”

A typical midle-aged Bowmore of solid quality. This was bottled just in time before the wood influence became too powerful. – Rating: 86/100

Aberlour 16 yo Cask 4738 for TWE

May 12, 2016
Thumbnail image for Aberlour 16 yo Cask 4738 for TWE

This is quite dry when enjoyed neat, but with a splash of water the full gamut of sherry flavours begins to resonate. Excellent. – Rating: 89/100

Ardbeg Dark Cove Committee Edition

March 15, 2016
Thumbnail image for Ardbeg Dark Cove Committee Edition

This has been dubbed “darkest Ardbeg ever”, but it’s not even as dark as my Uigeadail. Wood spices dominate, and there is a mild fruitiness. A solid release, but it can not beat good batches of Uigeadail. – Rating: 85/100

Ardmore 22 yo 1993/2015 G&M for Whisky-Online

February 11, 2016
Thumbnail image for Ardmore 22 yo 1993/2015 G&M for Whisky-Online

The herbal peatiness makes for quite an unusual whisky style with the wood remaining very much in the background. It tastes quite odd on the first sip but it grows on you and greatly benefits from a splash of water. – Rating: 86/100

Compass Box Flaming Heart 15th Anniversary

Thumbnail image for Compass Box Flaming Heart 15th Anniversary

A very well composed blended malt with a delicate balance of aromas. It is a very elegant whisky with many interesting flavours. – Rating: 87/100

Balmenach 26 yo 1988/2015 Signatory for TWE

November 3, 2015
Thumbnail image for Balmenach 26 yo 1988/2015 Signatory for TWE

You don’t find Balmenachs very often which is a bit of a shame. This is a very fine expression with a deliciously waxy mouthfeel. – Rating: 86/100

Octomore 7.3 Islay Barley 5 yo

October 19, 2015
Thumbnail image for Octomore 7.3 Islay Barley 5 yo

The very high peating level is obvious on nose on palate but there is also the nice fruitiness that is typical for Bruichladdich. You can taste its youth but it works well. – Rating: 86/100

Laphroaig 16 yo 1998/2015 Signatory for TWE

September 2, 2015
Thumbnail image for Laphroaig 16 yo 1998/2015 Signatory for TWE

Sherry cask Laphroaigs are hard to come by, and this reflects in the price. This is an excellent example that has a stronger peat punch than you would expect. – Rating: 90/100

Glen Garioch 1990/2015 Usquebaugh Society

August 9, 2015

A richly flavoured Glen Garioch that is very typical of older expressions of this distillery. It is quite spicy but not overwhelmingly so. – Rating: 87/100

Elements of Islay Lp6

August 5, 2015
Thumbnail image for Elements of Islay Lp6

This is a bit fruitier then the official Cask Strength bottling but it still focuses on the strong medicinal distillery character. The website says “moreish”, and I agree. – Rating: 87/100

Elements of Islay Bw5

August 3, 2015
Thumbnail image for Elements of Islay Bw5

Tropical fruits galore are the backbone of this whisky, the peat is only in the background. This is excellent, if only the bottles were bigger… – Rating: 88/100

Tamdhu 25 yo 1984/2010 Whisky Doris

May 26, 2015

A very good Tamdhu, creamy and fruity with just the perfect dose of wood spice. The mid-twenties are the sweet spot of this disillery, in my opinion. – Rating: 87/100

Bowmore 1995/2014 Wemyss “The Rockpool”

May 6, 2015
Thumbnail image for Bowmore 1995/2014 Wemyss “The Rockpool”

One of the best non-classic Bowmores I have tasted. It is very rich and thick and benefits from a bit of water. – Rating: 89/100

Ardmore 1991/2013 Rum Barrel Malts of Scotland

March 12, 2015

If you expected a sweet elixir, you will be disappointed. This whisky is very elegant, a mix of peat and fruit with a just light sweetness. – Rating: 87/100

Cardhu 26 yo 1984/2011 Duncan Taylor

March 5, 2015

Cardhu doesn’t have the best reputation among whisky geeks, but this rare inependent bottling proves that they can make great whisky. It is mouth-coating, succulent and richly flavoured. – Rating: 87/100

Invergordon 1988/2014 Wemyss “Caribbean Crème”

February 19, 2015
Thumbnail image for Invergordon 1988/2014 Wemyss “Caribbean Crème”

Rather light bodied but with quite a bit of flavour inside, this is quite an elegant single grain whisky. Water kills it quickly, though. – Rating: 85/100

Bunahabhain 1988/2014 Wemyss “Kirsch Gateau”

February 13, 2015
Thumbnail image for Bunahabhain 1988/2014 Wemyss “Kirsch Gateau”

This is a very fine aged sherried malt that has everything you would expect from such a dram. It is quite spicy, though. – Rating: 86/100

Linkwood 1987/2011 Malts of Scotland

February 2, 2015

This Linkwood is fairly light in character but nonetheless has quite an intense palate. The fruity flavours dominate, spices are in the background. This is bourbon refill as it should be – Rating: 87/100

Tamdhu 1988/2012 Malts of Scotland

January 26, 2015

Both nose and palate are fairly restrained, there really is not much interesting going on. It sips nicely but I expect a bit more from a whisky of this age. Rating: 83/100
