This outstanding Mortlach is both meaty and very fruity. The flavours are delightful but the low bottling strength makes it slightly watery. – Rating: 90/100

Glen Grant 58 yo 1953 Gordon & McPhail

After the massive nose, the palate feels rather shy and lacking the complexity you would expect from a whisky of this age. Still a very fine dram but not outstanding. – Rating: 87/100

Mortlach 21 yo Gordon & MacPhail

February 11, 2013

A nice dram it is for sure but nothing really breathtaking, and not a very typical ‘meaty’ Mortlach either. – Rating: 83/100

Glen Keith 1993 Gordon & MacPhail

February 11, 2013

The mix of sweet fruit and spice is very well balanced, the creamy mouthfeel adds to the pleasure. – Rating: 85/100

Linkwood 20 yo 1991 Cote Rotie Finish Gordon & MacPhail

February 10, 2013

Very strong wood and light sulphur make this not a dram for anyone. Was this a finish to save a bad cask? – Rating: 78/100

Dailuaine 1995/2011 Gordon & MacPhail

February 10, 2013

An enjoyable and straightforward dram, the palate is much spicier than the nose suggests. – Rating: 83/100

Glen Grant 60 yo Queen’s Diamond Jubilee G&M

If you have £8000 to spare, you will be rewarded with an excellent and very unusual whisky. Remarkably little wood influence after 60 years in the cask, I can only call it intensely delicate. – Rating: 91/100

Longmorn 44 yo 1967/2011 Gordon & MacPhail

December 20, 2012

The nose of this very rich whisky is wonderful. On the palate and in the finish there is a bit too much wood for my taste – Rating: 87/100

Strathisla 1970/2011 Gordon & MacPhail

May 23, 2012

Despite of slightly lacking ABV punch this is a brilliant whisky with lots of sherried goodness and an outstanding finish. – Rating: 88/100

Glen Grant 59 yo 1952 Gordon & Macphail

May 22, 2012

It has a nose to die for as well as many lovely flavours on the palate, but the very adstringent ‘woody’ mouthfeel is detrimental. – Rating: 87/100

Tormore 1982/2011 Gordon & Macphail

May 19, 2012

This is a nice but rather sweet dram with a very creamy mouthfeel, the nose being the strongest asset. – Rating: 84/100

Strathisla 1965/2011 Gordon & Macphail

February 29, 2012

The rather overwhelming sherry does not quite manage to cover the traces of the decades in this very old malt. Lots of fruit meets lots of wood. A sherry monster wielding a huge wooden sledge hammer. – Rating: 86/100

Clynelish 1997/2008 Gordon & Macphail

October 18, 2011

The general taste of this whisky is very nice indeed, but there is a spirty edge to it that takes away some of the pleasure.
– Rating: 83/100

Imperial 1997/2010 Gordon & Macphail

July 14, 2011

On the nose this malt seems older than it actually is, the palate is more youthful. A very strong attack on nose and palate calls for water which brings out more spices in exchange for sweetness. – Rating: 87/100

Linkwood 1991/2006 Gordon & Macphail

June 25, 2011

This is a very fine sherried malt with a gorgeous nose. The palate is just a touch too much on the sweet side to be truly outstanding. – Rating: 86/100

Longmorn 46 yo 1964 Gordon & Macphail

June 18, 2011

This superb malt shows quite a bit of wood, but the strong flavours and the complexity are powerful enough to keep it in balance. – Score: 92/100

Miltonduff 1969/2010 Gordon & MacPhail

May 29, 2011
Thumbnail image for Miltonduff 1969/2010 Gordon & MacPhail

This is an excellent light bodied sherry monster with a lot of flavours and just enough wood to make it even richer. It’s a pity that there are so no original bottlings of this distillery anymore. – Score: 88/100

Mortlach 1998/2010 G&M for Whiskyshop Dufftown

May 16, 2011

The nose is almost disappointing, but the excellent palate delivers a strong reconciliation. A very rich and beefy Mortlach that becomes very cloudy diluted to around 40% – Rating: 86/100

Braes of Glenlivet 1975/2001 Gordon & Macphail

A nice fruity dram with a surprising light smokiness, not a real cracker but quite enjoyable. Bottled almost 10 years ago and still available. – Rating: 82/100

Auchroisk 1993 Gordon & Macphail

This malt reminds my a little of the infamous durian fruit that can also give you a good whiff of cheese. But in fact I quite like it, just as I like durian. – Rating: 80/100
