The density of flaovurs in this young whisky is amazing as is the strong influence of aromatic spices. The finish does not interfere with the spirit. This is a superb thick exlir where a little goes a long way. – Rating: 88/100

Some aspects of this rye are really nice but there are a few aromas on nose and palate that lessen the joy to some extent. – Rating: 78/100

Three Ships Bourbon Finish

Don’t be put off by the weak nose, on the palate this South African blend is amazingly complex and very enjoyable. It easily beats most young Scotch blends. – Rating: 80/100

Bain’s Single Grain 5 yo

September 20, 2010

At five years of age, this grain whisky has not yet lost all of its harsheness but there is already a quite remarkable variety of enjoyable flavours. With longer maturation it should have the potential to match any fine old Scotch single grain. – Rating: 75/100

Three Ships 5 yo

September 10, 2010

A very interesting blend that does not need to shy back behind proper Scotches. Not a real cracker, but plenty of flavours can be found in this sippable whisky from South Africa. – Rating: 78/100

Bruichladdich Octomore 02.2 Orpheus

The unusual combination of strong peat and red wine works amazingly well. It tastes pretty much like a piece of smoked ham marinated in Bordeaux wine. – Rating: 87/100

Kilkerran Work in Progress 2009

The youthful freshness is quite prominent, but at only five years this malt already has an amazing balance and complexity. – Rating: 83/100

Bruichladdich Octomore 2

May 10, 2010

It rather has a purely phenolic peatiness that lacks the notes of smoked ham or the likes that are often found in peaty malts. But the general character is much gentler and more accessible than that of the Supernova. – Score: 86/100

Glendronach Revival 15 yo

November 29, 2009

Heavily sherried with quite some tannins, but not really bitter. A great and very complex single malt. Because of the mothballing of Glendronach in 1996, in a few years time new batches will be older than 15 years. Keep an eye on it! – Score: 89/100

Swissky Single Malt – Exclusiv-Abfüllung 5 yo

July 24, 2009

This must have been matured in a quince eau de vie barrel. The taste of quince kills all whisky-ness. In fact I like the taste, but this really is not whisky. – Score: 35/100
