This excellent malt does not really show its age. It is perfectly balanced with a rich taste and creamy mouthfeel. – Rating: 88/100

A very nice sherry dram indeed, offering a lot of flavours to hunt down. The bottlers could have been a bit more generous with the ABV, though. – Rating: 87/100

Glen Elgin 30 yo 1978 Cadenhead’s

May 24, 2011

A rich and well-rounded malt that doesn’t show its age. It is easy to drink but still pretty complex. The nose is splendid, but the palate can’t quite keep up. – Rating: 83/100

Bunnahabhain 1978/2008 Samaroli Coiltean

March 17, 2011

For a 30 year old whisky this Bunnahabhain seems amazingly immature. This was clearly not the best cask of 1978. But yet there it has a captivating element. – Rating: 77/100

Caol Ila 1980/2010 Master of Malt

The unusual herbal notes make this a rather unusal Caol Ila. But they are well integrated into a fruity and spicy mix of flavours. – Rating: 84/100

A very complex blend that is very enjoyable with its Springbank origin clearly noticeable. This rich and creamy whisky is ridicoulsly cheap for its age. – Rating: 87/100

Strathisla 30 yo Gordon & Macphail

The terrific sherry nose is almost matched by the very complex palate. But 43% ABV just a little too weak fo this malt. Rather dry but not overly woody for its high age. – Rating: 88/100

Bunnahabhain 1978/2009 Murray McDavid

September 6, 2010

It it were not for the mint hint, this fine sherried dram might be mistaken for a Macallan or Glenfarclas. Surprisingly fresh and un-woody for its age. – Rating: 88/100
