This is still quite a nice whisky, despite the slight sulphur influence. Overall it is a bit on the sweet side. – Rating: 84/100

While the nose is sublime, palate and finish feel a bit weaker, but all on a fairly high level to be fair. – Rating: 86/100

It has a lovely nose, but palate and finish are disappointing, a rather anticlimactic dram. – Rating: 76/100

Glenrothes 24 yo 1984/2008 Jack Wiebers

If you ever wondered why some distilleries don’t like their name on independent bottlings, this forgettable whisky from a dead cask gives you the answer. – Rating: 64/100

Glen Moray 1986/2011 Duncan Taylor

Very well balanced and thoroughly enjoyable as long it is in your mouth, but the finish lacks some length. – Rating: 84/100

The perfumy notes are not really disturbing on the nose, but they are just a bit too dominant on the palate, thus spoilng an otherwise nicely flavoured whisky. – Rating: 72/100

A very well-balanced malt that shows its age but has not lost its vitality. It is perfectly drinkable neat, but it also benefits from adding some water. This one is percfect for slow sipping on a relaxed evening. – Rating: 87/100

Cambus 24 yo Bladnoch Forum

Even with water the nose is somewhat pungent but not unpleasant. Unlike the SMWS Port Dundas, the floral elements are not overwhelming the other flavour components. A well-balanced and nicely sippable single grain for a fair price. – Rating: 84/100

Karuizawa 1985/2009 Cask #7017

July 24, 2010

Sulphur is not always a welcome addition to a malt’s aroma, but for this whisky I think it works phenomenally well. It is interwoven with dozens of flavour notes and none really sticks out. There is so much going on in that extremely complex whisky. A true cracker of a dram! – Rating: 94/100

Highland Park 1981/2006 Mackillop’s Choice

If you give this whisky a while to develop its aromas, you will be rewarded with a delicate and very complex dram. Highly enjoyable, but it comes at a price. – Score: 89/100

Port Ellen 2nd Annual Release

December 22, 2009

This is an extremely complex malt with aromas that seem to come and go in waves during time. Flavours are so concentrated that you could delay it 1:1 with neutral spirit, water it down to drinking strength and still have an excellent dram. – Score: 94/100
