The semi-official Mortlach botting has a fantastic old-fashioned sherry nose. On the palate it displays prominent tannins but the richness of other flavours keeps it in balance. Not quite as “meaty” as other expressions – Rating: 86/100
Quite smoooth and fruity, but the flavours are not very complex and the 40% bottling strength results in an unpleasant watery mouthfeel. – Rating: 78/100
The sharp nose is not tamed by water. The tingle on the palate is too strong to be fully enjoyable, not to mention the lack of complexity. – Rating: 75/100
This whisky is not easy to handle. It needs much water until it becomes less spirity, and then the taste is diluted a bit too much for me. – Score: 77/100
This is a true spice bomb. but not of the usual “wood spice” type that can get too overpowering at times. Balanced out by a slight sweetness. Almost no fruity aromas to be found here. – Score: 87/100
This one is a bit too spicy for my taste. There is not much to balance out the wood. It’s still not a bad whisky, but there is something missing. – Score: 80/100
At first try I was a little disappointed, but now the bottle is almost empty, I am starting to like it. Not the best horse in the stable, but maybe somthing for love on second sight. – Score: 80/100
