Caol Ila 16 yo 1995/2012 Whisky Doris

More medicinal and “dirty” than your usual Caol Ila, this is an excellent and complex peaty powerhouse. – Rating: 87/100

Bushmills 16 yo

April 15, 2013
Thumbnail image for Bushmills 16 yo

Not quite as massive as the 21 yo, but very much along the same line despite the cask hodge-podge. The standard 40% remark applies as well. – Rating: 86/100

“Lochranza” 16 yo 1996/2012 Blackadder

April 12, 2013
Thumbnail image for “Lochranza” 16 yo 1996/2012 Blackadder

A smooth nose and a rather punchy but fruity palate make this undisclosed malt (probably from the Isle of Arran) a pleasant sipping experience. – Rating: 86/100

Glenlivet Nadurra 16 yo Batch 0911P

April 8, 2013
Thumbnail image for Glenlivet Nadurra 16 yo Batch 0911P

Like so often the nose promises more than the palate can deliver. The intriguing sweet and fruity aromas are somewhat buried in wood spice. – Rating: 82/100

Arran 16 yo 1996/2012 Master of Malt

February 12, 2013
Thumbnail image for Arran 16 yo 1996/2012 Master of Malt

Sharp alcohol and rather strong spice hit your palate, the rest of flavours can barely keep up. – Rating: 80/100

Bowmore 16 yo 1995/2012 Adelphi

August 3, 2012

The palate is almost on par with the fantastic nose, a very richly flavoured dram with strong fruity and spicy notes. – Rating: 88/100

Allt-á-Bhainne 1995/2012 C&S Dram Collection

May 14, 2012
Thumbnail image for Allt-á-Bhainne 1995/2012 C&S Dram Collection

A very nice light ‘summer dram’, quite enjoyable overall, but the dilemma is: water enhances the nose but weakens the palate. – Rating: 82/100

Glenlivet Nadurra 16 yo Batch 1010K

April 20, 2012
Thumbnail image for Glenlivet Nadurra 16 yo Batch 1010K

This is a quintessential Glenlivet fruit bomb at full strength, highly enjoyable and affordably priced. – Rating: 87/100

Aberlour 16 yo

April 19, 2012
Thumbnail image for Aberlour 16 yo

Quite gentle in character, not really an aroma bomb, simply a pleasant middle-aged malt where the wood is beginning to be noticeable
– Rating: 83/100

Scapa 16 yo

April 18, 2012
Thumbnail image for Scapa 16 yo

A decent enough standard dram with no real flaws, but palate and finish are a bit on the shy side. – Rating: 78/100

Laphroaig 1995/2011 Signatory

April 16, 2012

It may not be immediately recognizable as a Laphroaig, but it’s a fine example of a rather typical Islay style malt. – Rating: 86/100

Macallan 1990/2006 Mackillop’s Choice

March 27, 2012

This is form a pretty tired cask. It’s not bad whisky at all but it doesn’t leave lasting impressions in your memory. – Rating: 81/100

Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1993

February 6, 2012
Thumbnail image for Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1993

A brilliant combination of fruit and smoke. The PX sherry combines very well with the Lagavulin distillery style. – Rating: 88/100

Bruichladdich First Growth Cuvée B

October 2, 2011
Thumbnail image for Bruichladdich First Growth Cuvée B

A really nice wine finish here, the cheese note is barely noticeable but adds an interesting dimension to an already very flavourful dram. – Rating: 84/100

Strathisla 1994/2011 Cask Strength Edition

June 2, 2011
Thumbnail image for Strathisla 1994/2011 Cask Strength Edition

An excellent lightly sherried malt that nonchalantly manages to do the splits between complexity and ease of drinking. – Score: 87/100

Longmorn 16 yo

May 28, 2011
Thumbnail image for Longmorn 16 yo

Noticeably better than the version I tasted in 2009 and also quite different. The flavour profile is a bit unusual but this is quite a pleasant dram. – Score: 84/100

Laphroaig 16 yo 1994 Cadenhead’s

May 26, 2011

This fine peated dram has got the typical Laphroaig tang, but it is not quite as flavour-laden as the standard distillery bottlings, probably because it does not seem to have been matured in a first fill cask. – Rating: 85/100

Mortlach 16 yo 1994 Cadenhead’s

May 22, 2011

If you like Mortlach for its trademark meaty style, you might be disappointed with this bottle because it has an entirely different character. It is very dry and spicy without many other flavours to balance it out. – Rating: 73/100

Tamnavulin 16 yo Master Of Malt

April 21, 2011
Thumbnail image for Tamnavulin 16 yo Master Of Malt

Showing similar cereal aromas as the original 12 yo bottling, this malt plays in a higher league. It is quite richly flavoured, but the spices are a bit too dominant for me. – Rating: 81/100

An Cnoc 16 yo

February 24, 2011
Thumbnail image for An Cnoc 16 yo

A pretty dry and spicy malt with a slight fruity touch. I’d have preferred a little less spice, though. – Rating: 81/100
