The famous waxy mouthfeel of Clynelish is very prominent here, together with a slight woody driness. This is a very good alternative to the original 14 yo bottling. – Rating: 87/100

Arran 10 yo – Revisited

Definitely an improvement over the older version. It has full flavours and a strong body, the spices are quite prominent, though. Needs a bit of water. – Rating: 85/100

Tamdhu 10 yo

February 11, 2014

I have read many good reviews about this new Tamdhu standard bottling, but I cannot become friends with it. There is just too little in there to pick up. – Rating: 67/100

Masterson’s Straight Rye 10 yo

February 13, 2013

A very mellow rye whisky with a velvety mouthfeel, quite delicate but still rather complex.- Rating: 84/100

The flavours of this malt are actually quite nice, but it is just too weakish and watery. – Rating: 73/100

Arran 2001/2012 Bourbon Cask 808

Quite a shy and secluded whisky overall, a dram for those who like their whisky very subtle. – Rating: 81/100

The tasting notes may read worse than the dram actually is, but the butyric and bitter aromas are not particularly pleasant. – Rating: 74/100

A very pleasant entry-level malt from a distillery often overlooked, approachable and well-balanced with a nice mixture of fruity and spicy flavours. – Rating: 84/100

Glenturret 10 yo

August 6, 2012

Quite a nice daily dram with a pleasant flavour profile, a slightly longer finish would have lifted it to the 80 point mark. – Rating: 78/100

Aberlour 10 yo

August 1, 2012

A surprisingly strong density of flavours makes this a very enjoyable sherried entry level dram. – Rating: 84/100

Ellenstown 10 yo

July 11, 2012

With the nose of a peat monster that takes no prisoners and a sweet but dry palate that is dominated by spices, this malt is not for the faint of heart. But delicious it is. – Rating: 86/100

Bowmore 2000/2011 Douglas Laing

May 19, 2012

It reminds me a bit of the Bowmore Darkest, but the youthful freshness makes this dram even more delightful. – Rating: 89/100

Springbank Rundlets & Kilderkins

April 30, 2012

The small cask maturation creates strong wood spices that almost overpower the spirit. Luckily it was bottled soon enough, so we can still enjoy a very nice dram. – Rating: 86/100

Glentauchers 2000/2011 Aberdeen Distillers

April 9, 2012

This whisky forces you to hunt down its flavours. You will eventually find them but they are all very generic. – Rating: 72/100

Glenmorangie Original (Revisited)

I don’t think this dram has changed much in the past 38 months. Decent nose but non-descript palate. – Score: 72/100

Macduff 2000/2010 Whisky & Rhum

March 29, 2012

A full-powered young sherry monster, the sweetness is rather dominant here, partly on the expense of other flavours. – Rating: 84/100

Bunnahabhain 2001/2011 The Whisky Agency

March 23, 2012

A malt from a rather tired cask with a less than perfect nose, on the palate it catches up a little but overall it remains somewhat lacklustre. – Rating: 80/100

Laphroaig 1991/2011 The Whisky Agency

March 10, 2012

An unusual sherried Laphroaig, the wine takes away some of the maritime peat punch and replaces it with a nice fruitiness. – Rating: 86/100

Macduff 10 yo 2000 Exclusive Malts for Taiwan

February 28, 2012

A very pleasant mix of flavours here. This whisky is quite heavily sherried but overall it is rather subtle than in your face. – Rating: 87/100
