Bottlings

This is form a pretty tired cask. It’s not bad whisky at all but it doesn’t leave lasting impressions in your memory. – Rating: 81/100

The Macallan 10 yo CS is not easy to come by these days and you have to be prepared to pay significantly more than for the standard sherried 10 yo. Yet I was fortunate enough to secure 2 samples of different batches.

Much creamier and noticeably more mature than the 10 yo Sherrry Wood. The nose is terrific, and it’s also intensive on the palate despite the 40% bottling strength. The best value of the Macallan standard range. – Rating: 85/100

A quite unusual but very enjoyable Macallan most probably from a Fino sherry cask. The richness in aromatic spice flavours is well balanced with fresh citrus notes. – Rating: 85/100
June 15, 2010
This kind of whisky is what made The Macallan famous. A perfect balance of sherry and oak with a plethora of fruit and spice flavours. The Sherry Oak 18s are becoming harder and harder to find though, which unfortunately also shows on the price tag. – Rating: 92/100
April 17, 2010
The nose is quite pleasant, but the flavours on the palate are a bit too weak to stand up against the wood spice. – Score: 78/100
March 28, 2010
A marvelous old-fashioned sherry whisky, very dry but still smooth and not overly spicy. – Score: 91/100
February 12, 2010
I have always wondered why there are so little cocktails based on sherry. After pondering this for a while I had an idea: Why not make a Manhattan-like cocktail with sherry and a sherried Scotch ?
December 28, 2009
Great nose, palate is a bit weaker due to the bottling strength. But still a very nice basic sherry malt with good value for the money – Score: 82/100
December 16, 2009
This whisky is not easy to handle. It needs much water until it becomes less spirity, and then the taste is diluted a bit too much for me. – Score: 77/100
August 23, 2009
A very well-balanced whisky. The finish fits well and does not dominate. – Score: 85/100
