Lowlands
Long time ago, the Scottish Lowlands bustled with whisky distilleries. But for a variety of reasons, this region was the hardest hit when it came to closing down distilleries. The very light character of many of the whiskies made it very hard to compete with blended whisky that with the invention of the column still could be produced much chepaer than malt whisky.
Today, only three Lowland distilleries remain operational.
Auchentoshan – Bladnoch – Glenkinchie
Ladyburn – Littlemill – Rosebank – St. Magdalene / Linlithgow
