Ardbeg Dark Cove Committee Edition

This has been dubbed “darkest Ardbeg ever”, but it’s not even as dark as my Uigeadail. Wood spices dominate, and there is a mild fruitiness. A solid release, but it can not beat good batches of Uigeadail. – Rating: 85/100

Ardbeg Supernova 2015

Surprisingly fruity and civilised despite the 100 ppm phenol level of the malted barley. This does not feel like a peat monster at all, the fruitiness almost makes you forget the peat. – Rating: 87/100

Ardbeg Perpetuum

This is probably the most typically “Ardbeg” of the recent special releases, very straightforward in a way, but noticeably sweeter than for example the 10 year old. – Rating: 87/100

Ardbeg Supernova SN2014 Committee Release

So far I have only tasted the 2009 version of the SN which stupefied me. This is much more civilzed but still very powerful stuff. There are enough other aromas present to prevent this from turning into a mere peat bomb. – Rating: 88/100

It’s that time of year again, Ardbeg release their eagerly anticipated annual special bottling.

Ardbeg Alligator

September 5, 2012

The extreme charring of the casks makes this a quite unusal Ardbeg thay may repel the faint of heart. It has strong flavours and an almost chewy mouthfeel. – Rating: 87/100

Ardbeg 17 yo 1994/2011 Cadenhead’s

July 30, 2012

The peat is unusually strong and medicinal in this older Ardbeg. Everything is very clean and very dry, not overly complex but truly delightful. – Rating: 90/100

Ardbeg Uigeadail L11101584

Simply an excellent bottling. The sherry influence adds yet another layer of flavours to the already very rich Ardbeg spirit. – Rating: 92/100

Ardbeg Newmake

July 8, 2011

This is an excellent new spirit, very strongly flavoured but astonishingly smooth to drink even undiluted. It can take a lot of water, though. – Rating: 84/100

Ardbeg 1974/1993 Wilson & Morgan

May 14, 2011
Thumbnail image for Ardbeg 1974/1993 Wilson & Morgan

This is a very fine example of the legendary old Ardbegs, much more delicacy instead of today’s in-your-face peat. The tropical fruit aromas give it a very intriguing touch. – Rating: 89/100

Ardbeg 17

This legendary bottling is now traded at very high prices. Don’t excpect anything like the modern peat bombs Ardbeg currently offers. A very nice dram, light, fruity and fresh, but definitely not worth today’s prices. – Rating: 86/100

Ardbeg Blasda

This lightly peated Ardbeg is not at all unpleasant, but yet it leaves you with a feeling that there is something missing in this dram. – Rating: 82/100

Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist

May 26, 2010
Thumbnail image for Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist

The nose is terrific, but on the palate the sweetness is a little too much for my taste. But that’s just complaining on a very high level. It still is a damn fine malt. – Score: 87/100

Ardbeg Supernova 2009

March 20, 2010

Extremely long, peated salty fruit at first, followed by numbness. – Score: ??/100 Yes, you read right. I honestly don’t know how to rate this whisky.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan

Some prefer it over the Rollercoaster, but I think it has a certain lack of oomph that is not really made up by greater complexity or better balance. Still very good though, mind you. – Score: 86/100

Ardbeg Rollercoaster

March 11, 2010

The Rollercoaster received slightly mixed reviews, but I really like it. The vatting of 10 vintages gives is an astonishing complexity. – Score: 90/100

Ardbeg Uigeadail – 2007 bottling

January 25, 2010

A powerful dram where a bit of sherry successfully underlines the typical Ardbeg flavour profile – Score: 91/100

Ardbeg 1993/2008 Cadenhead’s

November 9, 2009

This is a fantastic dram. Strong peat perfectly balanced with strong vanilla. almost no sweetness in here and only a little fruit. – Score: 93/100

Ardbeg Ten

Peat punch and delicate sweetness well balanced. One of the best entry level bottlings around – Score: 84/100
