While the flavours of this old whisky are complex and very enjoyable the quite strong tannic wood influence and lacklustre finish prevent a higher score.

The tasting notes just scratch the surface, there are layers upon layers of aromas and flavours in this fantastic old whisky. – Rating: 92/100

This is Glengoyne’s answer to Aberlour A’bunadh, and it is a good one. There still is a youthful edge to it but the first fill sherry aromas are wonderful. – Rating: 88/100

Despite being 12 years old, this dram feels a bit immature to me, the taste profile is not unpleasant but rather generic. – Rating: 72/100

Glengoyne 1988/2007 Cask 718

A thick and delicious dram from a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask. – Rating: 87/100

Glengoyne 1993/2008 Cask 845

March 8, 2012

Full-bodied and rich in flavour but the wood influence is quite prominent. – Rating: 84/100

Glengoyne 1990/2007 Cask 1523

A rich and full dram from a rather unusal amontillado cask. Some savoury flavours add another dimension. – Rating: 86/100

Glengoyne 1973/2010 Malts of Scotland

Rich and creamy, sweet and fruity, and a little spicy: There is a lot to discover in this excellent old malt. – Rating: 89/100

A very rich sherry monster with a fantastic nose. The palate lacks a little depth, despite the driness you can feel that it is still rather young. – Rating: 85/100

Glengoyne 1988/2009 Single Cask #780

March 1, 2011

Despite the dark colour, the sherry is not overwhelming but of course very noticeable. The whisky lacks a bit of complexity but it is still very enjoyable. – Rating: 85/100

Glengoyne 1996/2008 Single Cask #2606

February 28, 2011

This Glengoyne gives very coherent impressions on nose and palate. It is amazingly complex for its rather young age. – Rating: 86/100

Glengoyne Vintage 1997/2010

January 14, 2011

I’m not absolutely convinced by this malt. All parts of the tasting experience leave a somewhat shy impression even though the general plavour profile is rather pleasant. – Rating: 79/100

Glengoyne 1972/2009 Malts of Scotland

Extremely complex and richly-flavoured, this is a terrific fruity luxury digestive to enjoy after your Christmas dinner. – Rating: 91/100

The taste reminds me of German Bratapfel, an oven baked apple with a filling of nuts, raisins and spices that is usually served around Christmas. Quite complex and quite enjoyable. – Rating: 84/100

Glengoyne 1998/2009 Malts of Scotland

April 19, 2010

This whisky has a “million dollar nose” suggesting a very rich sherry bomb. But the palate does not quite meet the expectations raised by the nose as it lacks complexity. – Score: 83/100

Glengoyne 12 yo Cask Strength

The wood spicyness is a bit too dominant for my taste, it takes quite a bit of water to soften it down. But still quite a nice dram. – Score: 81/100

Glengoyne 1997/2009 Malts of Scotland

I was a little disappointed with this one. It’s hard to pin it down, but somehow it lacks “depth”. But I am sure that some will find it excellent, it’s just not quite my taste. – Score: 82/100
