I got hold of a miniature of Early Times, probably from the late 1960s, and a full bottle of Old Grand Dad from the early 1970s. A perfect setup for a head to head tasting, if you ask me.

This reminds me a little of the White Horse I recently tried but it is not quite as medicinal and more “rounded”. The peatiness is unlike anything on the market today. Only the finish lacks some persistance. – Rating: 86/100

Of course you can notice that this is a very young spirit, but the strong cask influence takes away some of the newmake character. It is not unpleasant at all, but indeed “Grain Eau de Vie” fits it much better than “Whisky” – Rating: 72/100
