Octomore 7.4 7 yo Virgin Oak

The virgin oak has left a massive imprint on the spirit, so despite the many wonderful flavours present in this whisky the tannic bitterness is a bit much for my taste. – Rating: 84/100

Three Ships 10 yo Single Cask PX Finish

Fortunately the finish of his inexpensive single cask whisky is rather gentle. The delicate smokiness adds more depth to an already fairly complex dram. – Rating: 85/100

Tomatin 36 yo Batch 1

January 25, 2016
Thumbnail image for Tomatin 36 yo Batch 1

Old Tomatins are often very fruity and this is no exception, the subtle hint of smoke makes this excellent but expensive whisky even more interesting. – Rating: 90/100

Glen Grant 60 yo 1950/2010 Gordon & MacPhail

January 17, 2016
Thumbnail image for Glen Grant 60 yo 1950/2010 Gordon & MacPhail

The nose is simply wonderful, but on the palate the wood dominates just a bit too much, also the 40% ABV results in rather watery mouthfeel. – Rating: 86/100

Scapa Skiren

January 13, 2016

The early palate is rather pleasant and creamy but soon gives way to the kind of edgy finish that is common for immature whiskies. – Rating: 74/100

Compass Box Flaming Heart 15th Anniversary

A very well composed blended malt with a delicate balance of aromas. It is a very elegant whisky with many interesting flavours. – Rating: 87/100

Elements of Islay Pl3

January 4, 2016
Thumbnail image for Elements of Islay Pl3

Yet again this not so secret Islay distillery delivers a powerful and spicy whisky. This thick, almost oily elixir can be savoured by the drop. – Rating: 89/100

Blackstone 15 yo

January 1, 2016

Utterly inoffensive, not necessarily in a bad way. This whisky offers a rather decent value for its low price but it won’t leave a lasting impression. – Rating: 81/100

Glenfarclas Springs

December 28, 2015
Thumbnail image for Glenfarclas Springs

Defenders of the No Age Statement concept say “It’s not about age, it’s about maturity”. They are right. But there is no maturity in this whisky. I can not remember tasting a weaker Glenfarclas. – Rating: 73/100

Port Askaig 100 Proof

December 22, 2015

A solid young peat monster for those who like this type of whisky. It is pleasant enough without having remarkable properties. – Rating: 86/100

Puni Nova 3 yo Batch 02/2015

December 17, 2015
Thumbnail image for Puni Nova 3 yo Batch 02/2015

It is interesting to compare this “naked” whisky to the cask wizardry of the Puni Alba. While it is still quite young it shows promise, and I actually prefer it. – Rating: 75/100

Port Askaig 30 yo 2015 Release

December 11, 2015
Thumbnail image for Port Askaig 30 yo 2015 Release

If you can afford this expensive bottle, you will be rewarded with an outstanding whisky. The balance of fruit and spice notes is fantastic and everything is underlined by a delicate medicinal smokiness. – Rating: 91/100

Mortlach 15 yo Gordon & MacPhail

December 2, 2015
Thumbnail image for Mortlach 15 yo Gordon & MacPhail

This long time semi-official bottling of Mortlach has the typical meatiness that has gone lost a bit in the new Diageo series. It’s not the most complex of drams but a very solid benchmark for this distillery – Rating: 86/100

Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve

November 30, 2015
Thumbnail image for Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve

The nose is actually quite nice but the palate is a disappointment. While the generic flavours of this whisky will not offend anyone, its lack of maturity makes it difficult to like. – Rating: 69/100

Cognac Bache-Gabrielsen “Le Sein de Dieu” for Wealth Solutions

November 26, 2015
Thumbnail image for Cognac Bache-Gabrielsen “Le Sein de Dieu” for Wealth Solutions

The complexity of the palate is enormous and lets you forget that the alcohol content is on the low side. – Rating: 91/100

Port Askaig 16 yo

November 24, 2015
Thumbnail image for Port Askaig 16 yo

The nose of this is very intriguing but the palate does not quite live up to the promise. The sweetness is overwhelming and despite the solid ABV the mouthfeel is a bit watery. – Rating: 82/100

Puni Alba 3 yo Batch 02/2015

November 22, 2015
Thumbnail image for Puni Alba 3 yo Batch 02/2015

Just as in the 15 months old the cask influce dominates the spirit, but it has mellowed and improved a bit. – Rating: 74/100

Singleton of Glen Ord “Signature”

November 16, 2015

This would be a very nice daily dram if the palate did not feel so watery. The profile is a bit middle-of-the-road but not unpleasant. – Rating: 79/100

Caol Ila 31 yo 1983/2015 Signatory for TWE

November 11, 2015
Thumbnail image for Caol Ila 31 yo 1983/2015 Signatory for TWE

There is hardly any peatiness left in this old Caol Ila, it all has transformed into fruity aromas. The cask was a bit too generous to the angels, though. – Rating: 85/100

Glen Grant 65 yo 1950/2015 G&M For Wealth Solutions

November 6, 2015

There is remarkably little wood influence for a whisky of this age. After some time to open up, there are a lot of fruity flavours to discover, the overall character is very delicate and refined. – Rating: 90/100
