Some aspects of the palate and especially the nose are truly fantastic, but underneath there is a slight watery feeling that makes me cut a few points. – Rating: 91/100

The nose is to die for, but on the palate this whisky is a bit edgy and not quite as harmonious as I would expect from a 90+ point dram. – Rating: 87/100

It is very gentle on the nose and doesn not have much of a punch on the palate either, but don’t be fooled. There is quite a lot to discover in this smooth dram. – Rating: 85/100

A nice nuttiness is joined by creamy fruit and strong spice which is actually a little too strong for my taste. – Rating: 81/100

The spices are quite dominant here, especially with a bit of water. The fruit flavours barely manage to keep up. – Rating: 83/100

The fruity nose does not really indicate the strong spices that will hit your palate. You have been warned. – Rating: 84/100

Coillmor 3 yo American Oak 2009/2013

If the German distillers just were a little more patient with their whisky. This is still too rough and newmake-y to be really enjoyable. – Rating: 65/100

Auchentoshan 35 yo 1975 Bourbon Matured

This malt has a very nice fruity and creamy base that is enhanced by rather strong wood spices. – Rating: 85/100

Garnheath 43 yo 1967/2010 Clan Denny

A very hard to find distillery, and what a fruit bomb this is. The wood has taken over a little too much for a 90+ score. – Rating: 88/100

Some very pleasant fruit notes are playing with the peat here. The mouthfeel is unusally creamy for a peated malt. – Rating: 87/100

Balcones True Blue Cask Strength

February 19, 2013

I do like the spicy notes quite a bit, but there is a certain mustiness (probably the blue corn signature) that I am not a fan of. I much preferred the smoked Brimstone. – Rating: 80/100
