The nose is exactly as I remember it from the Committee Edition, but on the palate it seems to be fruitier. I do like this version more in spite of the lower strength. – Rating: 87/100
Some very plesant sherry and spice notes feature in this oldie. The finish could be a bit longer but overall this is a very well composed blend. – Rating: 87/100
This weekend I had the opportunity to taste the Kininvie single malt for the first time. Together with my two whisky friends Klaus and Keith we tasted the 17 yo and the 23 yo bottlings.
Overall this feels quite watery. There are not many noteworthy flavours which makes you wonder about the quality of the base whisky used for this finish. – Rating: 77/100
This has been dubbed “darkest Ardbeg ever”, but it’s not even as dark as my Uigeadail. Wood spices dominate, and there is a mild fruitiness. A solid release, but it can not beat good batches of Uigeadail. – Rating: 85/100
Even though the nose is rather timid to open up, it is still the best aspect of this whisky. The palate lacks flavour and the finish lacks length. – Rating: 81/100
The herbal peatiness makes for quite an unusual whisky style with the wood remaining very much in the background. It tastes quite odd on the first sip but it grows on you and greatly benefits from a splash of water. – Rating: 86/100
The virgin oak has left a massive imprint on the spirit, so despite the many wonderful flavours present in this whisky the tannic bitterness is a bit much for my taste. – Rating: 84/100
Fortunately the finish of his inexpensive single cask whisky is rather gentle. The delicate smokiness adds more depth to an already fairly complex dram. – Rating: 85/100
Old Tomatins are often very fruity and this is no exception, the subtle hint of smoke makes this excellent but expensive whisky even more interesting. – Rating: 90/100
The nose is simply wonderful, but on the palate the wood dominates just a bit too much, also the 40% ABV results in rather watery mouthfeel. – Rating: 86/100
