Cognac L’Esprit De Tiffon For Wealth Solutions

by Oliver Klimek on June 25, 2014

Blended from pre-phylloxera spirits from Grande Champagne, oldest vintage: 1805 – 40%

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Bright copper
Nose: Orange marmalade, dried apricots, malaga raisins, cassis, hints of tobacco, cedar wood, polished leather, cinnamon, hints of cardamom.
Palate: Fully ripe peaches, sultanas, crème brûlée with orange zest, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, only minimal oak notes.
Finish: Long, fruity and mildly spicy.
Overall: A liquid time machine that takes you back into the early 19th century. It is unmistakably cognac but very different from today’s because of the different grape varieties that were used before the phylloxera devastated the French vineyards. This is exquisite, perfectly balanced and both rich and delicate at the same time.

Rating: 92/100 – Price tag undisclosed but likely substantial.

Don’t ask my why, but they have changed their policies. All bottles have already been sold, the publication is only to generate publicity. So nobody will be able to buy it anymore anyway. Given the prices for their previous bottlings this doesn’t actually make much of a difference for the usual readership of this blog…
