Glendronach 40 yo 1971/2011 Cask 1248

by Oliver Klimek on April 12, 2013

For Taiwan – PX sherry puncheon – 47.5%

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Mahogany
Nose: Ripe dark berries, prunes, balsamic vinegar, tobacco, polished leather, slight whiffs of a herbal bitter.
Palate: Cassis, cherries, blueberries, orange zest, not too dark chocolate, hints of soy sauce, cardamom and allspice.
Finish: Rather long, fruity and slightly dry.
Overall: Some excellent “rancio” flavours and a near complete absence of wood tannins could have made this spectacular. But the finish feels a bit too shy to warrant a 90+ score.

Rating: 89/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

Scored blind for the Malt Maniacs Awards 2012 where it won a gold medal, re-tasted for notes
