Talisker Distillers Edition 2000

by Oliver Klimek on January 3, 2013

Amoroso sherry finish – 45.8%

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Dark amber
Nose: Typically Talisker with a mix of peppery spices, light smoke, and a caramelly sea breeze, dried sherry fruit joins in.
Palate: Peat soaked figs and raisins, vanilla fudge, white pepper, cloves and cardamom.
Finish: Long, smoky and spicy.
Overall: The sherry remains rather in the background, only to underline the famous smoky spiciness of the Talisker spirit. Quite different from the fantastic 1999 vintage.

Rating: 87/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

While I’m not 100% sure the other one I tried was the 1999, I did notice a big difference between the two versions of Talisker DE I’ve sampled. The 2000 was much more gentle and almost floral, compared to the barbecue peat blast of the other. Very interesting to see how different whiskies can be when they’re nominally trying to create the same thing.
