Glenugie 30 yo 1980/2010 Dun Bheagan

by Oliver Klimek on December 6, 2012

Sherry butt 5375 – 50%

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Dark gold
Nose: Raisins, honey, beeswax, polished wood, candied ginger, hints of liquorice.
Palate: Raisins, dried mango, honey, apricot jam, ginger and pepper.
Finish: Very long with sweet fruit, spicy.
Overall: This dram delivers quite a massive attack of sweet and fruity flavours, the creamy and slightly waxy mouthfeel makes it even more sumptuous.

Rating: 90/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

A repeat tasting with a very different result, Oliver? Or just a snafu?

Cask 5375 – 50%
My Tasting Notes:
Colour: Bright amber
Nose: Vanilla, muesli, lemon zest, hints of rubber. Rather shy start, grows a bit over time.
Palate: A breakfast with muesli, yoghurt and a glass of grapefruit juice.
Finish: Medium long, sweet and sightly spicy.
Overall: All rather generic here, unoffensive and sippable, but the middle-of-the-road character does not make this a must-have dram.
Rating: 81/100

Oh, very interesting indeed. I did not notice I had tatsted it before. It was a sample I got in Limburg, and I genuinely enjoyed that one. I also noticed that Serge scored it very moderately too. It may have to do with how long the bottle has been open, but it clearly shows the subjectivity of tasting whisky.
