Whisky magazine just published an article on their website, announcing that the next World Whisky Day will be celebrated on 18th May 2013.
World Whisky Day 2012 has created quite a stir-up, as you may remember. Setting the date to 27th March, the birthday of whisky writer Michael Jackson, got quite a few people quite upset who knew about the first initiative to honour Michael Jackson on his birthday with a charity event. You can read about this controversy in two articles I wrote about this topic:
- World Whisky Day – Honest Celebration or Rip-Off?
- World Whisky Day – How Hedonism And Opportunism Killed An Idea
Needless to say that I am very pleased to see that the organiser(s) have decided to move the event to a less symbolic date.

Does our friend BB realise that a WORLD whisky day isn’t necessarily dependent upon Scotch whisky?
Yes, indeed it looks a bit like the Scottish hijacking the ‘World’ here. But in Germany there was a “World Fish Sandwich Day” on 12th May which was only celebrated in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, so this phemomenon is not really exclusive to WWD.
it’s all the more a good idea to move the date, as it provides ANOTHER day in the year with a pretext to drink whisky. not that i need any, mind you.
anyway, as i say (because i’m french) :
lundi, whisky ;
mardi, whisky ;
mercredi, whisky ;
jeudi, whisky ;
vendredi, week-end… donc whisky ;
samedi, whisky aussi.
dimanche, whisky quand-même.
friends who love whisky is all we need.
ah, and a couple of interesting bottles. ^^
