From Ian Mcleod – 40%

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Dark amber
Nose: Apples, raisins, honey, vanilla, toasted walnuts, mild smoke, a whiff of nail polish, crushed black pepper.
Palate: Quite sweet, caramel, toffee, raisins, hints of candied citrus, nutmeg and pepper.
Finish: Medium long, sweet and slightly spicy, minimally smoky.
Overall: Not really an unpleasant blend, but the flavours are just a bit too generic to lift it significantly above the major brands that sell for less.Rating: 72/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

Each to his own. I have to say this is one of my favorite low cost blends. On the nose it is malty, nutty with a hint of milk chocolate. On the palate it is slightly oily, dark chocolate, raspberry, sugar cookie, slight black pepper and hazelnut. The finish is long with dark chocolate and coconut. Very nice! I’d rate it a 90-95. Jim Murray also rates this dram highly at 94. And as a value for cost it is hard to beat. Reminds me a bit of Teacher’s blend.
Cheers!

I have heard from several places now that the US version has 43%, so you may have tasted that one. Would be interesting to compare the two head to head.

ps: Looking at what whiskies Mr. Murray rated 90+, I see no correlation of his ratings with mine.
