Bourbon hogshead 1231 – 44.5%
My Tasting Notes:
Colour: Bright amber
Nose: Stewed apples, ripe banana, polished wood, vanilla, ginger, hints of pepper.
Palate: Apples, banana, hints of mango, honey, candied ginger, a little liquorice, hints of nutmeg and pepper.
Finish: Rather long but not very strong, fruity and slightly spicy.
Overall: The wood is well integrated in this old malt, but the overall flavours are rather generic. The finish is just a pale shadow of the excellent nose.
Rating: 83/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$
Scored blind for the Malt Maniacs Awards 2011 – Re-tasted for notes
