Charbay Hop Flavored Whiskey Release III 1999/2011

by Oliver Klimek on May 4, 2012

For Los Angeles Whiskey Society – Barrel 1 – 69.1%

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Dark copper
Nose: Very strong and sweet, cherries, bitter almonds, hints of cannabis (!), all kinds of spices, notably cinnamon, mixed herbs.
Palate: Doppelbock beer of the Paulaner Salvator kind, amarena cherries, dark chocolate, oranges, all spices and herbs from the nose, hints of chili, rather fizzy mouthfeel.
Finish: Extremely long, fruity and spicy
Overall: I could nose this forever. The beer provenance is very noticeable on the palate, the density of flavours is stunning. But Distilling bottle-ready beer makes this whiskey hideously expensive.

Rating: 91/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

Hey Oliver –

Have you tried the prior two releases? I’m a huge fan of them as well. I still have yet to open my LAWS edition Charbay, but your notes make me want to. 🙂

Sadly I just had that sample of the 3rd release. But of course I wouldn’t really mind tasting the other two too 😉

Wish I could – I’ve only had small tastes of the first release. I don’t know of an economical, non-felonious way to get you any of the second release from the US…
