A very nice creamy and fruity whisky, rich in flavours but could benefit from a few more ABV points. – Rating: 84/100

Loch Lomond 45 yo 1966

May 30, 2012

The old age does not really show here although there is some noticeable wood. A lively and very enjoyable whisky from a distillery normally associated with mediocre malts. – Rating: 85/100

Benrinnes 23 yo

Rich, richer, Benrinnes. – Rating: 88/100

Glenfarclas Premium Edition 1993/2011

May 28, 2012
Thumbnail image for Glenfarclas Premium Edition 1993/2011

Because of its somewhat sour elements this was the least favourite whisky of the Scotch blind tasting competition. Not really a bad one, but not really ‘premium’ either. – Rating: 83/100

Caol Ila Unpeated 12 yo

May 27, 2012
Thumbnail image for Caol Ila Unpeated 12 yo

It may be made from unpeated malt, but there is still a hint of smoke carried over from the regular peated mashes. This creates a fascinating mix of flavours in this spicy dram. – Rating: 86/100

Auchentoshan 11 yo 1999 Bordeaux Matured

May 26, 2012
Thumbnail image for Auchentoshan 11 yo 1999 Bordeaux Matured

Even though it has been fully matured in wine casks, the Bordeaux does not overpower the whisky. Very smooth on the palate but also forceful at the same time. – Rating: 85/100

Arran The Eagle

May 24, 2012
Thumbnail image for Arran The Eagle

Very mild and gentle, almost timid, it really needs a few drops of water to open up a little. Probably the most delicate dram of the Icons of Arran series. – Rating: 82/100

Strathisla 1970/2011 Gordon & MacPhail

May 23, 2012

Despite of slightly lacking ABV punch this is a brilliant whisky with lots of sherried goodness and an outstanding finish. – Rating: 88/100

Glenallachie 35 yo Single Malts of Scotland

May 23, 2012
Thumbnail image for Glenallachie 35 yo Single Malts of Scotland

Classic old-time sherry here, gorgeous nose, strong attack on the palate, then getting a little timid before growing again to a strong finish. – Rating: 85/100

Glen Grant 59 yo 1952 Gordon & Macphail

May 22, 2012

It has a nose to die for as well as many lovely flavours on the palate, but the very adstringent ‘woody’ mouthfeel is detrimental. – Rating: 87/100

Yamazaki Bourbon Barrel

May 22, 2012

A thoroughly enjoyable Japanese whisky with a very good balance of flavours, both complex and approachable at the same time. – Rating: 86/100

Tamdhu 1989/2010 Mackillop’s

May 21, 2012

The sweetness of this malt is supported by a marked fruitiness, it is a very fine dram, light and fresh. – Rating: 84/100

Karuizawa 1981/2011 Cask 2634

May 20, 2012

After a very gentle start on the palate, this dram almost bursts into a taste explosion. There is a lot to explore in this malt, also the nose grows larger than Pinocchio’s after a while – Rating: 94/100

Karuizawa 1981/2011 Cask 6207

May 20, 2012

Rich in flavour but not overly complex, sweet and fruity but also a little edgy. – Rating: 86/100

Bowmore 2000/2011 Douglas Laing

May 19, 2012

It reminds me a bit of the Bowmore Darkest, but the youthful freshness makes this dram even more delightful. – Rating: 89/100

Tormore 1982/2011 Gordon & Macphail

May 19, 2012

This is a nice but rather sweet dram with a very creamy mouthfeel, the nose being the strongest asset. – Rating: 84/100

Glen Scotia 33 yo 1977 Prestonfield

May 18, 2012

An old-style malt with a nice combination of flavours, maybe just a little too sweet. – Rating: 85/100

Glenfarclas 2002/2011

May 18, 2012

A very nice sherry bomb, still a bit youthful around the edges, but rich in flavours and well-balanced. – Rating: 86/100

Linkwood 1989/2011 Signatory

May 17, 2012

Despite the very rich flavours, this malt has a delightful lightness often found in Linkwood. Be careful with water. Sublime. – Rating: 89/100
