Cutty Sark 18 yo

April 13, 2012

The 18 year old versoin is a little more pronounced than the 12 yo, but the flavours have trouble to emerge from a bedding of general sweetness. – Rating: 77/100

Cutty Sark 12 yo

A whisky like a nice piece of music in a radio turned down to minimum volume so you have trouble hearing it properly. – Rating: 74/100

Is Cooley Having Trouble To Cope With Demand?

April 12, 2012

Cooley just reported they will not sell their whiskey to independent bottlers anymore.

Dumbarton 46 yo 1964 Clan Denny

April 12, 2012

Really a typical old grain whsky, showing off lots of fruity, sweet and spicy flavours. The caramel/peach mix is delightful but it also has a sharp edge. – Rating: 87/100

Black Bull 40 yo Batch #2

April 12, 2012
Thumbnail image for Black Bull 40 yo Batch #2

Like in the first batch, the nose makes promises that palate can’t quite deliver. The mouthfeel is a bit thin as well for such an old whisky. – Rating: 84/100

Port Charlotte 2001/2010 Malts of Scotland

April 11, 2012

The sweetness is a little too dominant here to make it a truly great malt. Still quite a good dram, though. – Rating: 85/100

Port Charlotte 2002/2010 Malts of Scotland

April 11, 2012

Ultra-rich in taste but quite sweet, this is a great dram for contemplative sipping with a little going a long way.
– Rating: 89/100

Caol Ila 1983/2011 Duncan Taylor

April 10, 2012

Quite a good dram overall, but I am not sure if putting it into an octave cask really improved it. – Rating: 85/100

Glen Moray 1986/2011 Duncan Taylor

April 10, 2012

Very well balanced and thoroughly enjoyable as long it is in your mouth, but the finish lacks some length. – Rating: 84/100

Clynelish 1995/2011 Aberdeen Distillers

April 9, 2012

A malt that has some quite nice flavours but it’s all over much too soon. – Rating: 79/100

Glentauchers 2000/2011 Aberdeen Distillers

April 9, 2012

This whisky forces you to hunt down its flavours. You will eventually find them but they are all very generic. – Rating: 72/100

Wild Scotsman Black Label

April 8, 2012

A nicely sippable dram with a rather pronounced smokiness. The driness is quite pronounced as well, a bit less would make it even nicer. – Rating: 81/100

Tobermory 1995/2011 Aberdeen Distillers

April 8, 2012

The nose is actually pretty nice. You may consider to smell on this malt only. – Rating: 74/100

Glen Spey 1999/2011 Riverstown

April 7, 2012

Another one of those generic “not bad, but…” drams from very inactive casks. – Rating: 74/100

Kilchoman Spring 2011 Release

April 7, 2012
Thumbnail image for Kilchoman Spring 2011 Release

A very enjoybale whisky already tasting much more mature than only 3 years, it has some Bowmore-eqsue elements that I really like. – Rating: 86/100

Miltonduff 1998/2011 Riverstown

April 6, 2012

Very, very sweet for a whisky. Go for it if you like that, others can skip it. – Rating: 73/100

Amrut Blackadder 2010 Bottling

April 6, 2012

A very fine dram with lots of flavours to explore, just a tad too much on the sweet side to rate even higher. – Rating: 86/100

Gosling’s Black Seal Bermuda Rum

April 6, 2012
Thumbnail image for Gosling’s Black Seal Bermuda Rum

A mild bitterness makes this thick rum a little unusual. It is not very sweet, quite sippable neat but generally rather for mixing. – Score: 76/100

Why Private Whisky Blogging Is So Important

April 5, 2012

Here’s one of those thoughts that circle around in your mind for ages in some way but for a long time you don’t really get a grasp how to put them down in an article.

Smoking Islay 2000/2011 Blackadder

April 4, 2012

The medicinal character of this most delightful malt points to a location fairly close to Port Ellen. – Rating: 88/100
