Crown Royal Black

by Oliver Klimek on February 21, 2012

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Dark copper
Nose: Rich and bourbon-esque with brown sugar, orange zest, vanilla, cocoa and cinnamon.
Palate: Nice attack with everything that’s in the nose, but soon fading away into a fruity driness.
Finish: Rather short, I’m afraid.
Overall: How to judge this? This whisky performs a constant decrescendo from the moment you start sniffing it. Until mid-palate time it is very good, but it’s all over so soon.

Rating: 80/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

Packaging rant: The bottle comes in a mock velvet bag but has a an ultra cheap screw cap. Dear Crown Royal people, if you’re tight on budget with packaging, consider to skip the bag in favour of a decent bottle closure. I am not opposed to screw caps per se, but yours is at the bottom end of the quality spectrum.

You are so right… That screw cap is bugging me a lot, too… :)) It gives you a feeling that you are about to taste something very cheap somehow.
