Davin de Kergommeaux of canadianwhisky.org has been organizing the Canadian Whisky Awards for the second time now. Results have just been published, 14 awards were handed out in total. The jury was comprised of six prolific whisky writers and bloggers in addition to Davin himself. As for the results, I will only mention the Canadian Whisky of the Year award here which this year goes to Forty Creek John’s Private Cask No. 1 for the highest overall score. For the other winners, I strongly recommend that you check them out on the official results page.
This is not just a solidarity plug for a fellow Malt Maniac. Unfortunately not much has changed from I wrote about the image of Canadian whisky in my article about the 2010 awards. Canadian whisky has deserved better than just to be considered as an ingredient for cocktails and highballs. There are a lot of really good drams waiting be discovered, and Davin’s efforts to make them known to the world can’t be valued highly enough.
