Refill hogshead – 55.5%
My Tasting Notes
Colour: Pale straw
Nose: Vanilla, hazelnuts, malt, lemon zest, ginger, slight farmyard whiffs.
Palate: Vanilla, malt, lemon zest, grapefruit, hints of nuts, ginger and pepper.
Finish: Rather long, slightly fruity and slightly spicy.
Overall: Unfortunately, the refill cask could not give this malt the richness we have come to expect from a Dalmore. There are some nice flavours, but they are a little too subtle for my taste.

Cheers for the honest review Oliver – always good to get constructive feedback
We selected this one primarily to show what Dalmore’s spirit could be like when not aged in Oloroso/Port/PX/Chardonnay/Shiraz/anything else…
You’ve hit the nail on the head with ‘subtlety’ – I’d describe it as a very atypical Dalmore.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, Ben. I do appreciate atypical drams. But either first fill bourbon of a few more years of maturation would have done better at least for me
But for those who like that style of whisky (and I know there are people who do) this one may be a good choice.
I die a little inside every time Ardbeg release anything that isn’t first fill sherry(did you taste this year’s Feis bottling? OMFG!), so I understand your point of view
Yes, I had the pleasure to taste the PX Ardbeg but only informally, so no notes or even a score. It is seriously good indeed.
Got some here – give me a nudge next time you order and I’ll bung you a cheeky sample…
