German Oak Finish – 46%
My Tasting Notes
Colour: Dark gold
Nose: Not quite as smoky as you might expect, general maritime freshness combined with banana, lemon zest, toasted almonds and mild spices like cloves or cardamom.
Palate: Here comes the peat, along with the fruit and spice mix already present on the nose.
Finish: Long, smoky, fruity and spicy.
Overall: The nose requires water to reach full strength, the palate not necessarily. It is an excellent and rather ‘thick’ Caol Ila that feels a bit older than stated on the label.
