When I was in Scotland this spring for the Spirit of Speyside Festival I stayed in Aberlour right next to the River Spey. The weather was gorgeous, and especially in the evenings the atmosphere of the place was truly memorable.
Here is a recipe for a cocktail that tries to capture this mood in both style and colour.
Ingredients
- 50 ml 10 or 12 year old sherried Speyside single malt whisky
- 30 ml Rose’s lime juice
- 20 ml Aperol
Preparation
Shake with ice and strain into a Martini glass. It can be garnished with a piece of orange.
The fruity sweetness of the whisky combines very vell with the fruity bitterness of the Aperol and the fruity sourness of the lime juice. The whisky should not be too old to emphasize fruitiness over driness.
