The combination of whisky and cheese is nothing uncommon these days. I even made an experiment of marinating stilton in port wood whisky a while ago. Let me present you now another recipe that involves cheese and whisky.

This blend is aptly named “Tender Smoke”. I really like the balance of flavours. If they were stronger, this €10 dram would beat most well-known entry level blends. But it feels much too toned down. – Rating: 62/100

Dailuaine 1974 34 yo Mackillop’s Choice

The nose of this old malt is fantastic, but palate and finish fail to convince me. This may have matured some years too long. – Rating: 80/100

Glencraig 1974/2008 SMWS 104.11

A great full-bodied malt with a floral hint that is just light enough not to be disturbing. The Lomond malt is a little unusual but very very tasty . – Rating: 88/100

An unusal bourbon cask bottling of Aberlour. It is very spicy in an aromatic sense and still remarkably smooth and gentle. The liquorice note is rather prominent. – Rating: 83/100

Glenesk 1982/1997 Cadenhead’s

A very spicy malt with an impressive nose. But on the palate there seems to something missing to balance out the spiciness. – Rating: 81/100

Tomatin 1990/2008 Single Cask #16351

This malt is proof that all casks are different. It shares similarities with neighbouring cask #16352 but the flavour profile is notably more complex and richer overall. – Rating: 86/100

Inchfad 2001/2007

After a short while, the nose is rather pleasant. The palate is not quite as interesting, though. One of the better farmyard drams of Loch Lomond. – Rating: 72/100
