My Tasting Notes:
Nose: A bowl of dried fruits in a dusty old kitchen cupboard, hints of pipe tobacco and toffee.
Palate: Orange zest, red currant jelly, dried figs, cinnamon, rather tannic with hints of tea.
Finish: Long, dry and fruity.
Overall: The semi-official Mortlach botting has a fantastic old-fashioned sherry nose. On the palate it displays prominent tannins but the richness of other flavours keeps it in balance. It is not quite as “meaty” as other expressions, though.
