Bain’s Single Grain 5 yo

by Oliver Klimek on September 20, 2010

From South Africa – 43%

My Tasting Notes:

Colour: Dark gold
Nose: Notes of spices, vanilla and mixed fruit but a little harsh.
Palate: Apricot, honey, vanilla, cloves underlined with grain.
Finish: Long, fruity and slightly rough.
Overall: At five years of age, this grain whisky has not yet lost all of its harsheness but there is already a quite remarkable variety of enjoyable flavours. With ten or more years longer maturation it should have the potential to match any fine old Scotch single grain.

Rating: 75/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$

This was one of the drams we served at the WLF last year in Johannesberg. Most people enjoyed it, a good drink for a warm climate. Another few years maturation would be great.
