I think it is about time to distill an idea that has been mashing and fermenting in my mind for many months now. Several bloggers have been publishing interviews with stars and starlets of the whisky universe, and I happily admit that this is something I have always had planned to do myself.
But I wanted to do more than just interviews, so the idea was born for a project called Whisky People. It is an open ended series of portraits of … surprise… whisky people.
The whisky universe is filled with a seemingly endless variety of whisky expressions – from sweet vanilla bourbons to phenol bombs finished in Pomerol casks. But it is also populated with a likewise variety of people – from casual drinkers to malt anoraks, from bloggers to dealers to distillery managers. A bunch of totally different persons united by their affection for whisky.
In this project I will try to pick out people who I think can provide an interesting point of view on whisky. The articles will feature a short portrait of the person and an interview which will consist of a number of personalized questions as well as five questions posed to all interviewees.
To start with, the series will focus on people who are also active on the internet, mainly because it is easier to get in touch with them. But I would also love to include whisky people who don’t have internet access. If you know someone who might be interested to participate but doesn’t care about the net, don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
To be honest, I don’t know how many people this series will feature in the end. The response for my initial round of inquiries was pretty positive, so there will be enough material for the first weeks or months. Prepare for a roughly weekly publishing rhythm.
The first issue will be published later this week.
