New Poll: Do You Collect or Invest in Whisky?

by Oliver Klimek on June 12, 2010

There has always been a debate about collecting whisky. Some say “Whisky is made for drinking. Period.” while others have shelves full of bottles that are unlikely ever to be opened at all.

What is your view on collecting whisky? To find out, I created a poll that you can find at the right sidebar. Possible answers are:

  • I stock up on my favourite drams but drink them all
  • I try to make quick bucks by trading
  • I don’t want to collect but I buy too much
  • I collect eveything from a single distillery
  • I try to build up a valuable collection to eventually sell
  • I want to have as much whisky around me as possible

Only one answer is possible this time. I’m one of the bottle openers in case you are interested. The poll will run for several weeks. Don’t hesitate to share your views in the comment section!

Unfortunately, I could not transfer the active poll to my new site. Please got to my old site http://www.whisky-rating.com/ and take the poll there. It will stay online for a while. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I collect Karuizawa a bit. I also have Brora and Port Ellen whiskies that I do not intend to open yet.
Otherwise, I have whisky from eight distilleries that I may buy and not open immediately (Laphroaig, Karuizawa, Port Ellen, Brora, Ardbeg, Highland Park, Lagavulin, Yamazaki). I am “experimenting” with another four distilleries (Bowmore, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Mortlach) and have a few more whiskies (including blends). I often buy two bottles and keep one unopened.

I do not know how I can qualify my answer but I would say that I:
“Collect some whiskies without any plan to sell them”

By the way, I like your recent epistle on the Malt Maniacs very much!

Thank you,
Michael
