Sherry Cask #10035 – 60.5%
My Tasting Notes:
Nose: Bonfire at the sea shore, a hint of lemon, adding some water increases the breeze.
Palate: Quite strong peat, sugar, salt, and pepper, lemon again and a mix of oriental spices.
Finish: Very long and smoky.
Overall: Given its colour and character, this malt was most probably matured in a Fino or Manzanilla sherry cask. The terrific nose is backed by a sophisticated complexity of the palate that reminds me a little of Port Ellen. This malt is living proof that the industrial, automated, mass-producing, distillery of Caol Ila is capable of producing top class whisky.
