A great ten days in Scotland have come to an end, and I am back home in Bavaria. My journey to Islay and Glasgow yielded lots of material for new articles and of course also some new bottles of whisky.
This post is mainly to give you a quick overview of what to expect over the next days. I visited each of the Islay distilleries and will post reports abouth my visits on a day-by-day basis. In Glasgow I also took the chance to see Auchentoshan distillery, so you can expect a report about this as well. Then there will be an article about my experiences on Islay in general and perhaps also one about Glasgow.
If you dive this deeply into the whisky ocean, a lot of whisky thoughts circle through your mind. I will certainly pick up several general whisky topics in the neat future, but priority is on the travel reports first.
To be honest, I did not take many tasting notes for the drams I had, partly because of drams being served in tumblers and also the because of the distracting atmosphere in the bars. But rest assured that there will be no shortage in tasting notes in the forseeable future.
Let me close on a note to those still sceptical about social media. A while before I left for Scotland, I put up a question on my Facebook page if someone would like to meet me for a dram while I’m there. I received one positive reply, and we arranged a meeting in a Glasgow whisky bar. Just one hour after we had met I found myself in a private flat in somewhere in Glasgow together with four other whisky lovers that I had never seen before because of a suprising dinner invitation. And what a nice evening it was!
