Bulleit Bourbon

For my taste, the aromas on the palate are not strong enough to balance out the rather distinct spiciness. But it’s still a fairly good value for the money. – Score: 79/100

Woodford Reserve

April 26, 2010

A richly flavoured bourbon with a fruity nose and a spicy palate. A very good value whiskey. – Score: 84/100

Glenmorangie Quarter Century

An excellent malt with a luscious mouthfeel, very complex but still gentle on the palate. If you like fruity malts and don’t care about the ultra premium price. – Score: 91/100

Glenmorangie Nectar d’Or

April 24, 2010

Nice and fruity, but a bit too sweet for my taste. If you like sweet malts, this one is not to be missed, but I prefer the drier varieties. – Score: 80/100

Inverleven 1985/1998 Gordon & Macphail

April 23, 2010

This must have been a dead cask. The taste isn’t bad, but very unspectacular. – Score: 64/100

Glenfiddich 12 yo Toasted Oak

April 22, 2010

A nice and light fruitiness is gently enhanced by the cask wood wihtout being overwhelmed by spicyness. – Score: 81/100

Canadian Club

April 20, 2010

It reminds a little of whisky for just a few seconds, then you are left with a generic ethanol aftertaste. Use it as flavoured vodka to beef up your long drinks. Avoid drinking it neat. – Score: 30/100

Glengoyne 1998/2009 Malts of Scotland

April 19, 2010

This whisky has a “million dollar nose” suggesting a very rich sherry bomb. But the palate does not quite meet the expectations raised by the nose as it lacks complexity. – Score: 83/100

Macallan Estate Oak

April 17, 2010

The nose is quite pleasant, but the flavours on the palate are a bit too weak to stand up against the wood spice. – Score: 78/100

The Worpress blog system – or the included editor, to be more specific – has serious problems integrating captioned pictures without disrupting text flow.

So I decided to collect all pictures I took in this post without further comments.

Bowmore 15 yo Mariner

April 15, 2010

Very rich in many different flavours, not a peat-in-your-face malt. Suprisingly smooth, maybe a even bit too much. I think it would deserve a bit more punch. – Score: 85/100

Glenturret 1993/2006 Port Wood Chieftain’s Choice

April 14, 2010

A very enjoyable fruity dram with a good measure of aromatic spices. – Score: 84/100

Rhosdhu 1996/2008 Murray McDavid

April 13, 2010

This is very dark for a bourbon cask and could even be mistaken for a sherried whisky. Very complex but certainly not everybody’s darling. – Score: 75/100

Glenkinchie 12 yo

April 12, 2010
Thumbnail image for Glenkinchie 12 yo

A very nice everyday dram, quite complex for “just a standard bottling”. – Score: 82/100

The Famous Grouse Port Wood

April 11, 2010

The nose is quite interesting and promising, but the nice taste on the palate only keeps up for a few seconds before turning into boring grainyness. Better than the standard Grouse, but not enough to make me want to buy a bottle. – Score: 62/100

The malt has a great nose and a quite a complex palate but could use a little more impact. – Score: 81/100

Gentle peat combined with a fruity freshness that is very enjoyable. A malt with a quite unique character, but somewhat similar to the Croftengea from Loch Lomond, only more gentle and rounded. – Score: 83/100
