Talisker 10 yo – old Map label

by Oliver Klimek on January 29, 2010

My Tasting Notes:

Nose: Very intense, maritime smokiness meets dried fruit
Palate: Peaty and spicy, but also with notes of raisins and dark chocolate
Finish: Long, dry smoke, slightly sweet
Overall: The old version has much more sherry influence than its modern brother. I wouldn’t say it’s better, but it is intriguingly different.

Score: 86/100No price information as this is a collector’s bottle

How did you come about this older bottling of Talisker 10? That would be an interesting comparison to be able to make.

Besides the difference in sherry influence, how different were they in terms of spiciness? Was one stronger and/or longer lasting than the other?

It was just a sample I bought. Unfortunately, my bottle of recent Tally 10 is already gone, so I can’t do a head-to-head comparison. Recalling from memory, the spiciness of the two is comparable. I wouldn’t prefer either one over the other personally, but I wouldn’t be surprised if others preferred the old version.
